Beautifully shot by director / photographer Anton Corbijn, Control depicts the tumultuous life of Ian Curtis, lead singer with seminal post-punk band Joy Division. Walking the tightrope of success coupled with epilepsy and depression as well as an increasing aversion to his domestic situation and wife, Curtis tragically loses his grip on it all, giving in to the darkness that consumes him. A stirring portrayal with Sam Riley and Samantha Morton excelling as Curtis and his wife Deborah; Joy Division's music which features throughout, echoes Curtis' struggles with poignance. As compelling to watch as a character study as it is a background to Joy Division and their origin, Corbijn presents an exemplary portrait of a man torn apart by the conflicts of his burgeoning artistic potential and inner demons.
